Career and midlife transitions
Some career changes are chosen; others arrive uninvited — a restructure, a redundancy, a role outgrown, or the slow recognition that the work which built your life no longer fits it. Either way, the questions are the same: what now, and on what terms?
I spent my career inside large organisations, leading transformation programmes within the NHS — which is to say, helping capable people navigate change that was often not of their choosing. The discipline that work taught me sits at the centre of my coaching: observe accurately before acting. Most poor career moves are made by people who acted before they could see the picture.
This is not CV advice or interview preparation. It is senior, considered work on the layer underneath: what you actually want the next decade to hold, what your experience is genuinely worth, which of the options in front of you deserve to be taken seriously, and how to move with confidence rather than momentum.
How the work unfolds
The work runs in three stages:
Reflect
Seeing the situation accurately — what has ended or is ending, what you are carrying, and what this moment is actually asking of you.
Reset
Separating your worth from your last role, releasing what no longer serves, and finding honest ground to decide from.
Renew
Building a clear, evidence-informed picture of the next chapter — and a deliberate path into it.
Who this is for
- A senior role has ended — restructure, redundancy, or your own decision — and the next move matters
- You are successful by every external measure and quietly certain something needs to change
- Midlife has re-opened questions — purpose, contribution, pace — that the career answered for years
- You are weighing a significant change: sector, portfolio life, your own practice, or stepping back
Practical matters
Sessions are one-to-one and entirely confidential, in person in the Cotswolds or by secure video call across the UK. A Single Consultation is £250; longer arrangements — The Journey (six sessions across three months) and The Ongoing Partnership — are agreed individually. Every engagement begins with a free initial consultation.
Common questions
How is this different from outplacement or career advice?
Outplacement works on the mechanics of the next job. This works on the judgement underneath it — direction, identity and terms — which is usually where senior transitions are actually won or lost.
I haven't decided whether to leave. Is it too early?
No — that is arguably the best time. Deciding well is most of the work, and it is easier before events force the pace.
Is this only for people in large organisations?
No. The pattern — a chapter ending, a picture to see clearly, a next chapter to build — belongs to business owners, clinicians, and professionals of every kind.
The aim is not simply a next role. It is a decision you can stand behind in ten years — made with the picture fully in view.
