Coaching through relocation and uprooting
A significant move looks, from the outside, like a logistical exercise. Anyone who has done one knows the truth: the boxes are the easy part. What takes longer is the quieter work of belonging — rebuilding identity, connection and purpose in a place that does not yet know you.
I have relocated countries myself — not as an adventure, but in the middle of the hardest chapter of my life. I know what it is to arrive somewhere new with your history somewhere else, and to discover that the person who arrives is not quite the person who left. That experience, alongside a career leading people through complex change in the NHS, is the ground this coaching stands on.
Relocation coaching is for the human side of a move: the loss of standing and familiarity, the surprising grief for a former life, the marriage or family renegotiations a move exposes, and the deliberate work of building a life — not just an address — in a new place. It is equally suited to those still deciding whether to move, those newly arrived, and those who moved some time ago and have not yet landed.
How the work unfolds
We work through the move in three stages:
Reflect
An accurate picture of where you are — what the move has taken, what it has offered, and what this chapter is asking of you.
Reset
Releasing the comparisons with the life you left, and finding honest ground in the life you actually have.
Renew
Building belonging deliberately — identity, connection, routine and purpose in the new place, on your terms.
Who this is for
- You have moved — across the country or across the world — and have not yet found your footing
- A move is on the horizon and you want to approach it deliberately, not just logistically
- You relocated for a partner's work, a family need, or a fresh start, and your own identity got left in transit
- You are returning “home” after years away and finding it stranger than expected
Practical matters
Sessions are one-to-one and entirely confidential, in person in the Cotswolds or by secure video call across the UK. A Single Consultation is £250; longer arrangements — The Journey (six sessions across three months) and The Ongoing Partnership — are agreed individually. Every engagement begins with a free initial consultation.
Common questions
Do you work with expats and international moves?
Yes. Sessions are held by secure video call, which suits clients anywhere. The themes of uprooting — identity, belonging, rebuilding — travel with you regardless of the map.
We moved as a family. Do you work with couples?
The coaching itself is one-to-one, which keeps it a genuinely private space. Where a move affects a couple or family, we work on your side of it — which is usually where the leverage is.
Is this useful before a move, or only after?
Both. Working before a move tends to focus on making the decision well and preparing for what it will actually ask of you; afterwards, on landing properly. Either is a sound place to begin.
A move stops being an upheaval when the life around it becomes deliberately yours. That, in short, is the work.
