Retirement & reinvention coaching

Retirement, approached deliberately

Retirement is routinely described as an ending, and planned as a financial event. In practice it is one of the largest identity transitions of adult life — and the people who thrive in it are rarely the ones who left it to chance.

After decades in which work has supplied structure, standing, colleagues and a ready answer to “what do you do?”, its removal leaves more than free time. It leaves questions that deserve better than hobbies-as-filler: What is this chapter for? Who am I without the role? What would make these years genuinely mine?

My work draws on a career leading change within the NHS and on certification from Harvard Medical School in the science of fostering happiness and health span — the evidence on what actually sustains wellbeing, vitality and purpose in later chapters. This is not a programme of positive thinking. It is considered, structured work on how you will live.

How the work unfolds

The shape of the work:

I

Reflect

An honest audit of what work has been carrying for you — structure, identity, purpose, people — and what its absence is exposing.

II

Reset

Letting go of the role without letting go of your standing, and finding ground that does not depend on a job title.

III

Renew

Designing the next chapter deliberately — purpose, health span, contribution and time, built around what the evidence says actually sustains a good later life.

Who this is for

Practical matters

Sessions are one-to-one and entirely confidential, in person in the Cotswolds or by secure video call across the UK. A Single Consultation is £250; longer arrangements — The Journey (six sessions across three months) and The Ongoing Partnership — are agreed individually. Every engagement begins with a free initial consultation.

Common questions

Isn't retirement planning a financial adviser's job?

The financial side is — and I don't touch it. This work concerns everything the money is for: purpose, identity, structure, health and relationships across a chapter that may run thirty years.

When is the right time to start?

Earlier than most people think. Working a year or two ahead of the date allows the transition to be designed rather than absorbed. That said, some of the most valuable work happens after retirement has landed and the first plans have proved thinner than expected.

What does the Harvard certification actually cover?

Certification from Harvard Medical School in the Science of Fostering Happiness and Health Span — the research evidence on what sustains wellbeing, vitality and purposeful engagement through later life. It informs the Renew stage of the work in particular.

The question this work answers is not “how do I fill the time?” but “what is this chapter for?” Clients tend to finish with a considered answer — and a structure that holds it.
